Transport Cooperative Chilla Falls off Devil’s Route in Ecuador, 16 Fatalities

Who: 16 fatalities, 20 injured
Why: The driver of a Transport Cooperative Chilla bus apparently lose control and veer off the two-lane road at a curve known as “Devil’s Route” ; La ruta del diablo’. The bus fell 984 feet. The injured were taken to Vicente de Paul, Passage, and Theophilus Davila Hospitals. Most of those aboard were farmers from Chilla on a pilgrimage to the Virgin of the Remedies.
