Train Taken by Cleaner Derails Into Building


On Tuesday January 15, 2013, in Stockholm, a woman hired to clean the train commandeered the empty four car Arriva commuter train and a mile later, it derailed, skidded thirty yards and smashed into a three story building. None of the three families in the building were hurt. The woman had to be extricated from the wreckage. She was flown by air ambulance to Karolinska University Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, and she was arrested on “suspicion of endangering the public.”

The accident occurred at midnight at at Dalaro bridge. The top speed of the train is 70 kilometers per hour. It has not been determined how fast the train was going.

Residents of the house were evacuated. It is unclear how the woman got the key. Officials are examining safety procedures.
