Swiss FLIRT Injures 5 and Fails test


What: FLIRT (Fast Light Innovative Regional Train)

Why: Three Norwegians, a Swiss and a Finn were aboard the FLIRT train on the Vestfoldbanen train line when the new high-speed train derailed near Nykirke on a mountain SW of Oslo. The FLirt is made by Stadler Rail AG. Testing of the train has been discontinued as they study the accident to discover the reason the train derailed.

Four were hospitalized in T√łnsberg and one more severely injured, a 56-year-old man, was sent to Ulleval University Hospital in Oslo.

This Fast Light Innovative Regional Train have a top speed of 200 kilometers per hour; the wrecked train is one of five being tested. 50 of these trains were scheduled to be in use in Norway next year. They are currently operating in Finland Austria, Germany and Switzerland.
