Secret Chemical Gag Rule In Pennsylvania

Fracking wells are created when engineers inject water, sand and chemicals into the rock bed to free the natural gas. The wells remain to collect the gas. In Wyoming, the EPA reported potentially dangerous substances linked to fracking.

Some studies identified pollutants possibly from fracking in water wells and in the air, some of which may be linked to health problems. The Geisinger Health System wants to use patient records to study the health impact of natural gas production to learn if fracking pollutants increase the incidence of diseases such as diabetes and cancer, asthma and other lung problems. However, a Pennsylvania “doctor gag rule”law which grants physicians access to information about trade-secret chemicals used in natural gas drilling forbids doctors from warning anyone about the chemicals.
