Rs.100,000 for the Dead in Sri Lanka

What: train en route to Polgahawela hit the Observation Saloon of the Colombo-Kandy train.

When: Sept 17 2011
Who: 3 killed, 25 injured
Why: At the Alawwa railway station, one train rammed another, killing three and injuring 25. A Korean who was in the observation car was killed, as well as a French tourist and a Thai Buddhist monk. The driver of the Polgahawela train and his assistant were also killed. Eighteen were hospitalized at Alawwa and Kurnegala hospitals.

Rs.100,000 will be paid to the families of those who died. A four member committee is investigating.
