Pipeline: 3,000 barrels of oil Leaked in Amazon

pipe

A landslide in Peru ruptured the main Petroperu pipeline, and now the jungle is a sludgy mess, and oil is polluting the Chiriaco and Morona rivers. Petroperu said there are two breaks in the pipeline. Before the rupture, the oil pipeline daily delivered 5,000 to 6,000 barrels. Petroperu’s first containment effort was ruined by heavy rain which took down containment barriers. The pipeline was built in the seventies. Four officials were fired for paying and allowing children to collect the oil. Petroperu has not declared force majeure. Force majeure is the “act of God” clause that essentially frees parties from liability or obligation.
