Nearly 4,000 Gallons Recovered after Alaska Pipeline Leak

montanapipelineA leak was discovered in an onshore pipeline at a North Slope production site, owned by Hilcorp, in Alaska, on the morning of February 28.

Authorities said the leak was detected in a 10-inch production pipeline, located at Tract 14 in Milne Point.

Following the discovery, the wells at the tract were closed. However, cleanup operation was delayed due to a blizzard.

According to Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation, the cleanup crews reached the scene Sunday morning. Around 4,000 gallons of crude and other liquids have been recovered.

The size and cause of spill is under investigation, however, the Department of Environmental Conservation estimated that around 3,800 square foot area was contaminated.
