Eight Miners Die when Timber Truck Hits Bus


What: Minibus en route from Myslowice-Wesola colliery
Where: Zywiec, Poland

Who: 8 fatalities, 10 injured
Why: A mini bus carrying Workers home from the Myslowice-Wesola colliery was struck by a timber truck near Zywiec when the truck veered to the wrong side of the road. The victims were all between twenty and thirty-five years old. The damage to the minibus was so severe that the fire department had to cut passengers free of the wreckage, and the S69 Zywiec – Przybędza section of road was blocked from traffic for fourteen hours.

The truckdriver survived the crash. Tests reveal he was not drunk. He was arrested.

Four of the wounded were taken to the Regional Hospital in Bielsko-Biala, two to the General Hospital in Bielsko-Biala, one to the hospital in Sosnowiec.
