subway crashThree cars of a subway train derailed in Moscow, Russia, on the morning of July 15.

The accident happened between Slaviansky Boulevard station and Park Pobedy station, during the morning rush hour, when the train was on its way from the north-west of Moscow to the city Centre.

Atleast 22 people were killed while 136 others were injured in the accident. The authorities confirmed that 8 people are in serious condition and more than 40 others also sustained critical injuries. Around 1, 100 people were evacuated from the scene.

According to a statement released by the Russian federal investigative committee, a rail switch, which was meant to connect the existing subway line with a new under-construction line, was improperly installed at the site where the accident happened. The switch was attached to the subway line with only a 3 mm wire, which broke and caused the accident.

The Russian investigators also said that they have made two arrests following the crash. The detained persons include a Moscow Metro’s track supervisor and an assistant track supervisor. They are suspected of not properly supervising the track switch system which apparently caused the accident.
